Maria Emília Bredero de Santos
Maria Emília Brederode Santos was elected President of the National Board of Education by the Assembleia da República (Portuguese Parliament) in November 2017. She was president of the Educational Innovation Institute of the Ministry of Education from 1997 to 2002 and representative of the Ministry of Education on the National Commission for Human Rights Education (National Commission for the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Decade for Human Rights Education) from 1998 to 2004. She was co-author of the Human Rights Education Manual Compasito, Council of Europe, 2007, of the game Rights on the loose - the Game of Democracy in 3 Dimensions, Association for the Cultural Promotion of Children / APCC, 2004 and The Constitution of the Portuguese Republic Exchanged by / for Kids, Assembly of the Republic, 2001 and 2002. She was pedagogical director of the television program and of the magazine Rua Sésamo (1987 to 1997) and author of the book Aprender com a TV, 1991 (Learning with TV, CTW, 1992). Maria Emilía Santos also held the presidency of the Portuguese Association for Artistic Intervention and Education through Art (2006 to 2008), the Evaluation Committee of the Escola Superior de Educação pela Arte ( Higher School of Education through Art) (1981 to 1982) and the Interministerial Group for Artistic Education (1996). Author of the books Evaluation of the Escola Superior de Educação pela Art, IIE / ME, 1994 and Os Aprendizes de Pigmaleão, Lisbon, IED, 1985 and 1991 - about her experience of teacher training at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She was a member of the Installing Committee of the Escola Superior de Educação of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal and president of its Scientific Council. He was President of the General Council of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal until November 2017. She is a member of the Opinion Council of RTP. Also a member of several Associations (such as the Portuguese Association of Permanent Education) and a member of the board of APGES (Global Platform for Syrian Students) and of informal groups such as the Informal Group for Education for Media Literacy (GILM) and the group Pedagogical Concerns (blog, facebook and Jornal de Letras page). She has a master's degree in Social Analysis of Education from Boston University, USA, and a degree in Educational Sciences from the Institut de Psychologie et des Sciences de l 'Education at the University of Geneva (where she also taught) and from Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon). Maria Emília Santos received the Rui Grácio award from the Portuguese Society of Educational Sciences in 1992 and the Boston University General Alummi Association award in 1994. In 2004 she was awarded the Order of Public Instruction by the President of the Portuguese Republic, Jorge Sampaio.
